The royal couple, whose wedding next May at Windsor Castle, west of London, will be a global television event, are due in Sydney for the Invictus Games from October 20 to 27.

The Games, founded by Prince Harry as an Olympics for injured servicemen and women, are anticipated to be the first major opportunity for Ms Markle to tour overseas as a royal wife.

Under the revised Order of Precedence, Meghan’s new bedside reading, she must always curtsy to the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, and Camilla and the Prince of Wales, as well as Princess Anne.

She will also have to curtsy to her new brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but not to the Queen’s other grandchildren.

The Order of Precedence was redrawn after Prince Charles and Camilla’s wedding in 2005, although Camilla may relax the curtsy rule in private to Meghan, as she has to Kate Middleton.

The couple has opted for the lower-key venue of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, instead of Westminster Abbey where Prince William and Kate, and indeed Prince Charles and Diana wed.

The chapel is set in the grounds of the castle, which means reduced public access from the outside.

However, the chapel seats 800 guests, the ceremony will be televised and it is likely to be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

Prior to the wedding, Ms Markle will be christened and confirmed into the Church of England, of which her future grandmother-in-law, the Queen is the head.

The royal family will pay for Meghan and Harry’s church service, after which they are expected to be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The wedding is being shaped as a “fun and joyful’’ day to also “allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations”.
