Meghan Markle became one of the most famous women on the planet when her relationship with (and subsequent engagement to) Prince Harry first made headlines. One of the reasons Markle joining the royal family is such a big deal? She's divorced! Who was the lucky guy who first married Markle — and was then unlucky enough to lose her? His name is Trevor Engelson. Here's what we know about him.

He's a producer and talent agent

Though clearly not quite as famous as his beautiful ex-wife, Engelson has had some success as a television and film producer. Engelson's FX bio reports that his first job out of college was as an assistant on the LL Cool J drama Deep Blue Sea (1999). Since then, he's produced everything from the rom-com License To Wed (2007), to the goofball Bradley Cooper and Sandra Bullock comedy All About Steve (2009) and Robert Pattinson-led September 11 drama Remember Me (2010). His most recent projects include 2017 series Snowfall on FX and an upcoming TV reboot of the movie Heathers.

In addition to television and movie production, Engelson also opened his own talent agency, Underground. Engelson manages various talent at Underground Films, including screenwriters, novelists, actors, and directors in the Los Angeles area. The company opened a New York office in 2012.

He has a connection to J.Lo (and your '90s nostalgia)

In June 2012, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that a big-screen adaptation of beloved kids' geography and mystery series Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego was in the works. Engelson was listed as one of the producers on the project, as well as his partners at Underground Films. Even cooler? THR reported that Jennifer Lopez was eyeing the film as a potential starring vehicle.

Of course, that was over five years ago, so the project probably won't happen. But, still kinda cool nonetheless.

He and Markle were together for a long time

Though Engelson and Markle were only married for two years, they were actually together for a long time before they tied the knot. The Sun reports that Engelson and Markle met in 2004 and dated for almost seven years before they married in September 2011.

Harry and Markle, meanwhile, got engaged after only about a year and a half of dating.

His and Markle's wedding was a great party

If The Sun is to be believed, Engelson and Markle's wedding in September 2011 sure did sound like a blast.

According to the report, the nuptials took place over a span of four days in Jamaica, with the actual wedding taking place on the third day. The couple reportedly hosted parties that included everything from wheelbarrow races to drinking games on the beach to a brunch. As for their actual ceremony? Reportedly, the whole thing took just 15 minutes.

A short ceremony in favor of days-long partying? That's pretty much every wedding guest's dream.

Markle and Engelson married the same year that her acting career took off with Suits, which allegedly proved to be their downfall as a couple.

A source told The Sun, "Trevor was devastated at the split. She suddenly had no more time for him. Meghan broke Trevor's heart, pure and simple. He is still in love with her and so the revelation of her new relationship with Harry has hit him hard."

Another insider told Woman's Day (via Life & Style), "Meghan landed her role in Suits just a few months before they married. Trevor was based in LA while Meghan was in Toronto, a five-hour flight away. It was a very difficult way to start married life."

She was 'empowered' by the split

In an ITV documentary on Markle called Prince Harry And Meghan: Truly, Madly, Deeply, Markle's friend Abby Wathen revealed that Markle simply felt the relationship with Engelson wasn't right for her anymore in light of her newfound success.

"She always knew she would be successful, she just…knew it. She knows what she wants and she gets it," Wathen said (via Metro), adding, "We both went through divorce, so we bonded on that too. I was destroyed, but she was empowered. She took her power back. It wasn't the right relationship for her, so she moved on."

He's been linked to a new bombshell

Don't cry too much for Engelson, because he's doing just fine for himself in the love department.

The Daily Mail reports that Engelson has been linked to a string of Hollywood beauties since divorcing Markle, most famously Baywatch (2017) bombshell Charlotte McKinney.

He's been offered big money to spill the beans about Meghan Markle

Engelson is reportedly being offered upwards of $1 million to write a tell-all about Markle. A source told Woman's Day (via Life & Style), "Trevor has remained tight-lipped until now, despite numerous cash offers being on the table. But now he's been tempted to open up about what he calls 'years of hell.'"

Well, that's one way to get over an ex: Engelson is reportedly developing a series based on his divorce from the future royal Markle. Deadline reported that Engelson is working on a single-camera comedy with Modern Family executive producer Danny Zuker about a divorcee whose ex-wife marries a prince, and the exes' struggle with custody battles and British tabloid media. While Engelson insisted at the time that it wasn't based on true events, it was likely at least slightly inspired by Markle's newfound fame and future husband.
