Stars who need to realize they aren't famous anymore
You know those celebrities that you see everywhere…except in movies, on TV, in music videos, or in concert? These stars are always hanging around, but never actually accomplishing anything significant, and at this rate, they're like "fetch." They're just not going to happen.
Stacey Dash should be more famous than she is infamous — she's jaw-droppingly gorgeous, was great as Dionne in the classic Clueless (1995), and she hasn't aged at all since then. Unfortunately, work has mostly dried up for her since 2001, with occasional bit parts on television and only direct-to-video film roles seemingly being offered to her. She's since become a conservative commentator, but she even lost that gig: In Jan. 2017, Fox News announced that Dash's three-year stint on the network came to an end in Sept. 2016, after controversial comments about race and even a suspension in 2015 after she swore on air while speaking about then-President Barack Obama.Camille Grammer opens up about cancer diagnosis
Tyrese Gibson doesn't have much going on in terms of acting outside of his roles in the Transformers and the Fast And The Furious franchises. Gibson took that frustration out on his Fast co-star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson via a series of social media rants in Sept. and Oct. 2017, in which Gibson first begged Johnson to return his calls, then berated the Baywatch (2017) star for having the audacity to have a spinoff of the Fast series.
The only projects Gibson has slated for the near future are Desert Eagle (2020) and Fast And The Furious 9 (2019). Perhaps to bide his time, he's focusing on music, writing on Instagram in Oct. 2017, "When they push #Fast movie to 2020 it's back to your day job — CAA's Mark Cheatum thank you for the 7 shows so far I just wanna do 20 shows please and get back to the house #BarclaysArena #PhilipsArena #ImNotCheap real offers only and I'm at you." Hey, at least he's trying to hustle, right?Last Jedi set for $215m opening in US
Nick Jonas will always have a place in our hearts because of his history with the Jonas Brothers, but his solo efforts have stalled lately: His most recent release, Last Year Was Complicated, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts in June 2016, which sounds good — until you realize that it actually came in behind Drake's Views, which had been out since April of the same year. In its second week, Last Year Was Complicated dropped out of the Top 10 entirely. Add that to his botched guitar solo at the 2016 ACM Awards, and, well, he may want to stick to acting, because he's doing well there — he got a lot of hype for his shirtless scenes in Kingdom, and he's likely to crack everyone up as the token hunk in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle (2018).
Kelly OsbourneControversies rock Hollywood in 2017
Kelly Osbourne is famous because her parents are Ozzy and Sharon and she was on The Osbournes from 2002 to 2005. Since then, she's had a slew of undeserved opportunities, from a flop music career (with one song, a cover of "Papa Don't Preach," peaking at No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100) to more than 200 television appearances as herself, including a five-year stint on Fashion Police … but she's known more for putting her foot in her mouth (like when she made a racist comment on The View insinuating that Latinos clean toilets) and feuding with other celebrities, like Lady Gaga, who didn't rely on nepotism to become successful.
Megyn Kelly made a name for herself on Fox News when she went viral in 2013 for insisting that Santa Claus is white, despite Santa Claus (spoiler alert), you know, not being real. She made a name for herself again in 2015, when then-candidate and current President Donald Trump slammed her for allegedly "bleeding out of her wherever." Her star continued to rise throughout the 2016 election cycle, which she used as leverage to jump ship from Fox News to NBC.Assault laws in focus amid Weinstein saga
Unfortunately, that move may not last long: Page Six reported that Kelly's ratings at NBC are so poor that Megyn Kelly Today is actually hurting other shows in the network's lineup. "Not only are ratings plummeting since Megyn Kelly joined the Today franchise, but the numbers show Kelly's lead-in has also affected Kathie Lee [Gifford] and Hoda Kotb's show, which follows straight afterwards," a source said. "They've taken a huge hit with Megyn as their lead-in."
Ratings for Kelly's hour of Today were down 32 percent compared to a year before the show premiered, and Kathie Lee & Hoda dropped 26 percent compared to 2016. An insider told Page Six, "Too many people are tuning out NBC. Hoda and Kathie Lee had been a bright spot in the mornings. People are alarmed." A second source said, "The format for Megyn's show doesn't make sense. Her show distracts from the Today franchise."
Aside from the ratings, Kelly may have issues booking guests following gaffes with Jane Fonda and Debra Messing, both of whom had moments of tension and a lot of awkwardness on the show.Jazz and pop singer Keely Smith dies at 89
Bow Wow was a superstar when he was Lil' Bow Wow. Now that he's not so lil', well, he's suffering from a lot of wishful and wistful thinking of the past, courtesy of social media. On Oct. 16, 2017, Bow Wow tweeted an edited photo of the original Death Row Records lineup from 1996 with his childhood face squeezed in between Tupac Shakur and Suge Knight. Followers quickly took him to task and pointed out that the original image, from Vibe magazine, didn't feature him at all. He said a fan sent him the image, but based on his past history with Photoshop, the world wasn't so sure.
In May 2017, Bow Wow's humiliation was worse. He posted a since-deleted photo of a private jet at an airport, captioned, "Traveling to NY today." Except, well, he wasn't on a private jet: A Twitter user spotted Bow Wow on his commercial flight and posted the photo, while another Twitter user did a reverse image search of the photo Bow Wow had posted of the private jet and found the identical snap on a website for a Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, airport. On June 11, 2017, he posted a video allegedly being mobbed by fans, which was met with similar skepticism. The untold truth of Omarosa
Compounding the reactions to Bow Wow's fibs were his own reports of his salary: TMZ reported that Bow Wow claimed in court to be making just $4,000 a month (which, to be fair, is nothing to sneeze at, but is a far cry from his Ferrari bragging days) and to have just $1,500 in his bank account, which he used to argue to lower his then-$3,000 monthly child support payments for daughter Shai. (Of course, he lied then, too, by failing to reveal he'd just been named a host of BET's 106 & Park, so who even knows what to believe anymore?)
Meghan Trainor made the entire world "All About That Bass" with her record-breaking, certified Platinum debut album, Title, in 2015. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to recreate that success with her sophomore record, Thank You: It peaked at No. 3 and sold just half of what Title did in its first week, after singles "No," "Better," and "Me Too" stalled. The reasoning for the lack of success can be attributed to a few different factors, not all of which were Trainor's fault: She underwent two vocal cord surgeries, leaving her unable to perform, tour, or do much promotion for the project; she fell during a performance on The Tonight Show; her initial video for "Me Too" was pulled after she claimed her body was digitally altered; and she did a 180 from the doo-wop sound that made her famous in favor of awkward attempts at rapping. Here's wishing her more success with album No. 3!Ed Sheeran reveals he wrote James Bond theme three years ago
Meghan Trainor's pal Charlie Puth keeps trying to happen … and it seems like he may go the way of the word "fetch." Puth has attempted numerous publicity stunts with female celebrities to get his name out there, from insinuating that he dated Selena Gomez in his "How Long" video in Oct. 2017, making out onstage with "Marvin Gaye" collaborator Trainor at the 2015 American Music Awards, and publicly throwing former fling Bella Thorne under the bus in a Twitter rant that nobody asked for in Dec. 2016. Maybe that's why The Late Late Show host James Corden could only name two of Puth's songs during a recent "Spill Your Guts Or Fill Your Guts" segment with the crooner — and he didn't even get the title of one of those tracks correct. Ouch!
Ashley GreeneBillionaire conservative wins Chile vote
After Twilight, Ashley Greene just couldn't seem to escape Alice Cullen. She starred in The Apparition (2012), but the movie was a critical and commercial bomb, returning less than a third of its budget at the box office. It was a pattern for her: CBGB (2013) made $4,000 on opening weekend. It's budget was $5 million. Her television work hasn't fared well, either, with Pan Am (2011-2012) only lasting one season.
Lindsay Lohan has had tons of second chances following her multiple arrests and reputation for a complete lack of professionalism. Her most recent feature film was the independent critical flop The Canyons (2013), from which The New York Times reports she was almost fired more than once for failing to show up to set and being difficult. Charlie Sheen helped her nab a role in Scary Movie 5 (2013), then she refused to kiss him in their love scenes. Oprah Winfrey attempted to help Lohan get back on her feet with her Lindsay miniseries on OWN, during which Lohan often refused to film and supposedly talked back to Winfrey several times.Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber take off on private jet together
Lately, Lohan's headlines revolve around lying about pregnancies, a messy engagement to a controversial Russian rich guy, and making outrageous demands to appear on a Russian TV show. Girl, enough.
The Pussycat Dolls broke up for good in 2010. Since then, frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger has made several efforts to break out into solo stardom, but they've fallen flat. Her July 2011 single with 50 Cent, "Right There," peaked at No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Don't Hold Your Breath" peaked at No. 86 that September. In the six years that she's been trying, Scherzinger hasn't been able to release an actual album in the United States, but says she's hoping to make that happen soon.Pretty Little Liars star sentenced to jail
"I've got a new deal coming out," she told HuffPost UK. "It was rumored all this year that I was dropped and I actually wasn't dropped," she said. "I was signing a new deal, with another label. We're still working on finalising the contract, which I am unable to speak too much about. I'm really excited about this project and new music that I'm putting together, and which will be released [this] year."
Perhaps knowing that may not happen, Scherzinger judged the X Factor in the UK, despite being possibly the most reviled judge on the show during its brief stateside tenure. She also managed to piss off musical legend Andrew Lloyd Weber after turning down the chance to reprise her critically acclaimed performance as Grizabella in the Broadway transfer of Cats, which is never wise. (Seriously, just ask Patti LuPone.) She most recently appeared in the ABC reboot of Dirty Dancing, but don't act like you saw it.
Hailey BaldwinRenee Zellweger hits back at Harvey Weinstein's recent claims
Hailey Baldwin is only relevant because of the people around her. Her dad is the second or third most relevant Baldwin brother, she's dated Justin Bieber, she's pals with Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and she occasionally hits a red carpet when she can serve as someone's plus-one. She's supposed to be a model, but until recently, her biggest runway was Instagram. In March 2016, Baldwin switched model management companies, moving to IMG, the same agency that handles Karlie Kloss and the Hadid sisters, so we may get to kick Hailey off this list in the future.
Chantel Jeffries dated Bieber briefly during the height of his legal troubles in January 2014 and has reportedly hooked up with him off-and-on ever since. The Instagram beauty keeps showing up on red carpets, and we can't figure out why. Seriously, what does she do? And who keeps inviting her to things?Spacey apologises, comes out as gay
Frankie J. Grande keeps trying to piggyback off half-sister Ariana Grande's fame. The problem is, where Ariana is a talented vocalist, seasoned Broadway performer, and former Nickelodeon star, Frankie doesn't actually do anything. He shows up at awards shows, dances occasionally, and was one of the most reviled cast members of Big Brother. It's about time he accepted that his sister got all the star power in their gene pool.
Christina MilianStrange things about Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel's marriage
Christina Milian had a hit back in 2004 with "Dip It Low." She had a reality show, Christina Milian: Turned Up, that was canceled in 2016, and appeared as a correspondent on The Voice, but she hasn't had a hit song of her own in ages, despite being talented and stunningly beautiful. Here's hoping she's investing the money she has strategically because she may be forced into retirement sooner than she thinks.
At some point, Kristin Cavallari realized that unlike Lauren Conrad, she doesn't have the enviable lifestyle or design skills necessary to maintain her Laguna Beach fame on her own. She attracted some limelight when she hooked up with Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, then broke up, then made up, got knocked up (times three!), and walked down the aisle. Since then, Cavallari has kept her name in headlines with occasional music video cameos, rampant anti-vaccine propaganda and quotes about her marriage that nobody really asked for. Girl, just give it up and be a WAG.Country music star Troy Gentry dies in horrific crash
Cody and Alli Simpson
Cody Simpson is talented, but he lacks the essential star power to make it big. He's had a lot of chances, opening for Bieber and occasionally appearing on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills with then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid, but the Aussie teen star can't seem to break through in the States. Similarly, his younger sister, Alli, has been trying to ride his coattails, and considering he can't even happen, it's a safe bet that she won't either.
Jonathan ChebanCelebs that have been banned from places for life
Jonathan Cheban has been riding the Kardashian wave since it started, appearing on countless episodes of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and other reality shows, including Millionaire Matchmaker. If he's wondering why no one takes him seriously, it's because he has even less discernible talent than the family that he follows around all the time.
Rita Ora has all the makings of a star: She has a body made for sin, the voice of an angel, and Jay Z in her corner. But the British beauty just can't seem to get a hit song, no matter how many features she gives (to Chris Brown and Snoop Dogg) and receives (from Drake and Calvin Harris) or how many cameos she has in movies like Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and Fifty Shades of Grey (2014).‘It’s painful’: Mel on Harvey scandal
Ora is known more for her messy relationships than her music. In 2016, she attracted the attention of Beyoncé's "Bey Hive" after rumors about Ora and Jay Z hit the tabloids. Ora was also embroiled in lawsuits with Jay Z's Roc Nation music label. According to Page Six, Ora sued in December 2015, claiming the label wasn't doing a good job promoting her career; Roc Nation responded with a suit accusing Ora of breaking her record contract and failing to deliver promised albums. The lawsuit was settled in June, allowing Ora to be released from her contract and sign with Warner Music, which may make this entire "courtship" disappear. Beyoncé/Jay Z v. Ora is not a fair fight, but that's what happens when you're more focused on turning yourself into a tabloid staple than you are in recording, writing, or promoting your own work.
When Paris Hilton lost Nicole Richie, she lost all the actual appeal of The Simple Life. Her televised efforts for a new BFF didn't last, nor did her music or acting careers. She's making money as a deejay now and attempted a musical comeback with Cash Money Records, but none of that money is coming from anyone with an actual appreciation for production. Mic drop.Harry and Markle ‘can’t bear to be apart’
Hilary Duff has been rumored to call the paparazzi on herself when she's running errands, because, well, there's little else to catch her doing in recent years. Her attempt at a musical comeback flopped, with "Chasing the Sun" peaking at No. 79 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her second single, "All About You," didn't chart at all, and her third strike, "Sparks," peaked at No. 93. Her album, Breathe In, Breathe Out fared somewhat better, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, but never made any radio impact—even when she tried to promote herself as a Tinder user.
According to Billboard, Duff signed a management deal with Scooter Braun in August 2016. That means she can either have a Bieber and Ariana Grande-like return to fame, or she can strongly consider keeping her day job on Younger, because Braun's track record isn't the best.Fergie ‘didn’t want to divorce Josh’
Another Scooter Braun failure, Tori Kelly, has been trying for years to break into the business. In 2010, she auditioned for American Idol, where Simon Cowell told her that her voice was "almost annoying," but she did make it to the Hollywood round before the public voted her off. In 2012, she went viral with a YouTube cover of Frank Ocean's "Thinkin' About You." Since Braun picked her up, Kelly has delivered solid, if unremarkable, performances at the Billboard Music Awards, BET Awards, and MTV Video Music Awards, but she can't seem to make anyone care enough to buy her records. Her debut album, Unbreakable Smile, respectably debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, but her success on the Billboard Hot 100 leaves much to be desired: "Nobody Love" peaked at No. 60, "Should've Been Us" at No. 51, and "Hollow" at No. 68.
Kelly's biggest radio success may have been as a featured artist with Pentatonix on their mashup of "Winter Wonderland/Don't Worry, Be Happy," which could give her a temporary boost again during the holidays.Where are O.J. Simpson's kids now?
Be honest: you were like, "Cassie who?" The gorgeous model was taken under Diddy's wing, releasing "Me & U" in 2006. After a disastrous performance on BET in which she barely danced and was hardly audible, she addressed the problems, writing on her MySpace page (via MTV News), "I am aware that my live performances have been pretty bad. No excuses, I'm still getting over stage fright. I am very upset with the series of events this week, and I do not appreciate people making me look and sound crazy…I'm a 19-year-old girl, I'm single, and I'm working my ass off."
Of course, she wasn't actually single. She was (and may still be) with Diddy, who, despite earnest attempts, hasn't been able to break her out. Her follow-up single "Long Way 2 Go," peaked at No. 97. She released a follow-up album, Electro Love, in 2009, and none of its singles charted at all, even bolstered by her appearance in Step Up 2: The Streets (2008). Her biggest success on the charts has been as a featured artist on Nicki Minaj's "The Boys" in 2012, which hit No. 41 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Her much-hyped and critically praised mixtape, RockaByeBaby, was released in 2013, but still didn't sell well.Meghan Markle’s $266 million royal impact
Since then, Diddy has tried to make acting Cassie's focus. She starred in The Perfect Match (2016) and apppeared in Honey 3 (2016).
Kevin and Danielle Jonas
Joe Jonas has DNCE. Nick Jonas has his solo projects and acting. Kevin Jonas has…his wife, Danielle Jonas. The forgotten JoBro had a reality show with Danielle, Married To Jonas, which lasted one year. The couple now rely on social media and branding projects, most notably involving Danielle's pregnancies.Linkin Park announce Chester Bennington tribute concert, release 'One More Light' music video
Another failed Diddy protege, Aubrey O'Day gained notoriety in 2004 for her appearance on Making The Band 3, in which she joined Danity Kane. She was fired from the group in 2008 for allegedly trying to use the band to catapult herself into solo stardom. It didn't work. O'Day dabbled in music but has done mostly reality TV, including her single-season star vehicle All About Aubrey in 2011, The Celebrity Apprentice in 2012 (where she was fired again), and a Celebrity Big Brother stint in 2016. She also dated Jersey Shore star Pauly D after meeting on Famously Single. That didn't last, either.
Azealia BanksTop lingerie model: ‘I’m fed up’
For all of Azealia Banks' hype, she's never had a single song on the Billboard Hot 100. In terms of album sales, her most recent effort, Broke with Expensive Taste, peaked at No. 3, then dropped out of the Billboard 200 entirely. Her previous effort, the 1991 EP, peaked at No. 133.
Compare that minor success with her headlines: she's feuded with Lady Gaga, Iggy Azalea, Zayn Malik, a child star, Russell Crowe (yep), and endless others, often using hate speech. She's been arrested for assault. She's been kicked off Twitter, and she may be banned from the UK. What does she have to show for any of this? Not much, because she was also dropped from both her record label and her management company.
Banks attempted to apologize for her wretched behavior over the summer of 2016, but it seems like the damage was done.Inside Matthew Perry's tragic real life story
Camilla Belle is the sort of old Hollywood beauty that's rare in the age of Instagram sensations. Unfortunately, that's all anyone really knows about her. Her acting resume is full of duds (many of which aren't necessarily her doing), and she suffered some severe slut-shaming at the hands of a venomous Taylor Swift song called "Better Than Revenge" after dating Swift's ex, Joe Jonas. Belle still shows up to fashion shows and events, and the brunette stunner has acting gigs lined up through 2017, but will anyone be around to watch them?
Ray JCelebrities who broke the internet in 2017
Kim Kardashian became famous after Ray J sold their sex tape. Kardashian has an empire, two of the cutest celebrity kids in the world with rapper husband Kanye West, and a ton of money and A-list status. Ray J had a VH1 dating show and a supposed diss track that failed to chart. Hopefully he finds solace in just being Brandy's brother again.
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag made bank on The Hills, then blew it all on plastic surgery and weird crystals. Still, he insists the couple's drama was worth it. "We were fame whores, getting literally a million-plus a year in photos and being hated for it," Pratt told Vice in February 2016. "It's frustrating for me that people don't recognize that this was genius. This was innovating!"The real reason you don't hear from Anne Heche anymore
The couple went on to write the book How to Be Famous and appear on reality TV shows like Celebrity Big Brother, Celebrity Wife Swap, Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars, and I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! Pratt explained to Complex, "Mercenaries is pretty much what we are. Call us in when you are ready for some action. That keeps the bills paid." Montag added, "Reacclimating off that high of that fame and lifestyle was really hard. We had these expectations of, 'Oh, we're going to have our own show.' My expectation of life and where I thought we were going to be is so different from our reality." (Indeed, in 2016, the couple revealed that they had squandered their fortune from their reality-TV heyday.)
On the bright side, despite such a wacky romance, they're still together to this day. In fact, they welcomed their first child, a baby boy, in 2017. Which, honestly? Good for them.
Jaime KingHome Alone star John Heard's cause of death revealed
Jaime King was a successful model in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She's had small parts in movies and TV shows, but has never been a star in her own right. Perhaps that's why she spends most of her time (and most of her interviews) kissing Taylor Swift's butt as one of the oldest, most out-of-place members of Swift's infamous squad.
If nothing else, Tila Tequila may have one of the most eclectic resumes on the planet. She was a MySpace celebrity, then a bisexual reality star, then the fiancée to a late heiress, then a Neo-Nazi, then a reality star again—but not for long, because that pesky Nazi stuff caught up with her—then a conspiracy theorist. Sure, she may not be entirely stable, or morally sound, but what matters to her is that, for better or worse (usually worse), you remember her name.Three Kardashians are pregnant and everyone is making the same joke
Dianna Agron was hardly utilized on Glee and excluded from the Cory Monteith tribute episode, and many speculate it's because of her allegedly terrible relationship with show creator Ryan Murphy.
Agron's attempts at big screen stardom fell similarly flat. I Am Number Four (2011) did okay commercially, but failed to raise her star status. The Family (2013) fared somewhat better, but that film was also bolstered by A-lister co-stars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. Since leaving Glee, one could argue that Agron's most publicized role has been in Sam Smith's "I'm Not The Only One" music video. Why you don't hear from Drew Barrymore anymore
On the bright side: in 2016, she married one of the members of the British band Mumford and Sons. Maybe it's time to enjoy that for a bit?
Olivia Culpo was Miss Universe in 2012. She's gorgeous! But what else does she actually do? Her only mainstream relevance outside of pageantry was dating Nick Jonas, and that's over (and even Jonas' BFF, Demi Lovato, didn't think she was that great.) Culpo is still all over the place on red carpets and seems to be trying to jump-start an acting career, giving a brief appearance in The Other Woman (2014) and joining the cast of American Satan (2016), which stars such huge names as…Denise Richards and Drake Bell.Camilla slept with Charles for ‘revenge’
Ashlee Simpson used nepotism to her advantage, riding the coattails of big sister Jessica Simpson into fame, then dissing the entire process in her song "Shadow." She had jet black hair and a punk persona. She also got busted lip syncing on live television, then got booed when she made a screechy attempt to actually sing live again. Still, she soldiered on, getting a nose job the very same week she appeared on the cover of Marie Claire telling women to embrace their flaws.
Ashlee hasn't had any singles chart since 2006, and the New York Daily News reports that when she and new husband Evan Ross attempted to sell photos of their wedding in 2014, no one really wanted to pay for them…unless maybe big sis Jessica was in them, too. Ouch. What Adam Driver was like before the fame
