The real reason Meg Ryan's career was ruined
At one time, Meg Ryan took top billing with classics like When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle. But over the years, her presence in Hollywood has become pretty much nonexistent. The real question is this: why has the star's career taken such a turn for the worse? Let's look at a few reasons why Meg Ryan might be losing sleep over her career.
A case of burnout
Meg Ryan has starred in countless movies after getting her start as a principle in the popular soap opera As the World Turns. In fact, Ryan has been working in show business for over 30 years. Maybe she just needed a break. In any other profession, she'd be looking at retirement and pricing homes in Florida. Unfortunately, taking time off is dangerous in Hollywood, and tinsel town's cameras don't stop rolling for any actor.Controversies rock Hollywood in 2017
Picking up some bad roles
In 2008, it seemed liked Ryan was making a comeback with the a movie called The Women. The remake featured a star-studded cast to act alongside Ryan, including popular performers like Debra Messing, Bette Midler, Jada Pinkett Smith, Annette Bening, and Eva Mendes, to name a few. Sadly, The Women received some not-so-favorable reviews. One critic from Time even called it "…one of the worst movies I've ever seen."

Relationship drama makes headlines
During the early 2000s, rumors surfaced that the star allegedly cheated on her then-husband of nine years, Dennis Quaid, with her Proof of Life co-star Russell Crowe. Ryan didn't really address the situation. So she left herself open to bitter tabloid rumors of a messy divorce, and she seemed to be attracting a lot of the wrong type of media attention and getting the "scarlet letter" treatment. A little while later, she did open up in an interview with InStyle in 2008 addressing her feelings after the media backlash and taking a step back from the cameras:
"I didn't have to care about what people thought. I have gotten to do what I guess I secretly wanted to do. I could…be totally under the radar and live my life." Goodbye America's sweetheart, hello edgy attitude.Assault laws in focus amid Weinstein saga
Knocked out of the top spot
For most of her career, Ryan always seemed to be in high demand. But it's no secret that the competition is fierce for those "girl-next-door" roles. While Ryan may have tried to distance herself from that label, there were plenty of actresses interested in picking it up. Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, and Sandra Bullock have all mastered the genre besides Ryan. While most of these stars are well established, there are plenty of young, aspiring talents waiting to grab up roles that formerly would've gone to Ryan. Her absence may have left the door open for other actors to step right into her spotlight.
New look doesn't turn headsThe untold truth of Omarosa
For years, tabloids have circulated rumors that the blonde, blue-eyed beauty has had more than a few trips under the knife, and many gossip sites have made unsubstantiated claims that the star has had both Botox and lip injections. Those plastic surgery tales continue to ramp up, and some believe that the apparent change in her appearance is one of the biggest reasons why her career has taken such a hit. Ryan made a name for herself as the fresh face of the rom-com, and if she's really messing with that look, it's definitely bad for business.
