Drunk moments these celebs want you to forget

Shia LaBeoufLast Jedi set for $215m opening in US
Troubled actor Shia LaBeouf is certainly no stranger to run-ins with the law. Remember the time he was arrested midway through a performance of Broadway's Cabaret for drunken behavior?
He managed to hit what he called a "new low" in July 2017, when he went on a racist tirade while getting booked on charges of public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and obstruction in Savannah, Ga. Video of LaBeouf's fit quickly made the rounds on the internet, forcing the actor to publicly admit that he'd been "struggling with addiction" and was "actively taking steps toward securing" his sobriety. "It is a new low. A low I hope is a bottom," he said. We hope so, too.
Michael PhelpsCamille Grammer opens up about cancer diagnosis
Champion Swimmer Michael Phelps' road to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio hit a major hurdle in Sept. 2014 when he was pleaded guilty to drunken driving for the second time in 10 years.
Although he avoided jail time for the arrest, Phelps later admitted the incident that sent him to rehab was part of a "downward spiral" that served as a cry for help. "I think it was more of…a sign than anything else. That I had to get something under control, whatever it was," he told Today's Matt Lauer (via USA Today) in 2016. "I look back at that night and everything happened for a reason."
Phelps went on to win six medals at the Rio Games, including five gold. He has also gotten married and welcomed his first child, son Boomer.Controversies rock Hollywood in 2017
In June 2016, People reported that actress Selma Blair was removed from a flight on a stretcher and taken to a hospital after allegedly having an emotional outburst in first class. The outburst, sources said at the time, was reportedly brought upon by mixing alcohol with prescription medication.
TMZ reported that on the plane, Blair claimed an unnamed man beat her and was going to kill her. "He burns my private parts. He won't let me eat or drink," she allegedly said.Assault laws in focus amid Weinstein saga
The following day, Blair addressed the incident in a statement to Vanity Fair, admitting that she had "made a big mistake."
"After a lovely trip with my son and his Dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret," she said. "My son was with his Dad asleep with his headphones on, so there is that saving grace. I take this very seriously, and I apologize to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath. I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry."
Kiefer SutherlandJazz and pop singer Keely Smith dies at 89
Kiefer Sutherland's relationship with alcohol has been so messy that, at one point in 2007, he was sentenced to 48 days in prison for DUI.
The road leading up to his stint behind bars included a number of jaw-droppingly awkward moments. Like, you know, that time in December 2005 when he tackled a giant Christmas tree in a hotel lobby in London.
Sutherland took that particular incident in stride. In 2011, he jokingly recreated the crazy scene for his annual holiday card. The untold truth of Omarosa
Of all the infamous drunken moments in Hollywood, few hold a candle to Mel Gibson's erratic DUI arrest in 2006, during which he reportedly declared, "the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world!"
Gibson's career nosedived the moment the scandal broke. Even when he received an Oscar nomination for Hacksaw Ridge in 2017, Gibson found himself playing defense against reporters wanting to discuss his arrest.Billionaire conservative wins Chile vote
"Ten years have gone by," he told Variety in 2016. "I'm feeling good. I'm sober, all of that kind of stuff, and for me it's a dim thing in the past. But others bring it up, which kind of I find annoying, because I don't understand why after 10 years it's any kind of issue. Surely if I was really what they say I was, some kind of hater, there'd be evidence of actions somewhere. There never has been."

That's exactly what happened to Mariah Carey in January 2010 after the Precious (2009) star gave a wacky speech while accepting the award for breakthrough actress at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. During her speech, a visibly loopy and giggly Carey appeared to allude to the fact that she had popped one too many bottles before taking the stage. She then confirmed as much backstage at the People's Choice Awards a few days later, placing some of the blame on being reunited with her Precious director Lee Daniels.
"The thing is me and Lee hadn't see each other in a long time, and then he was presenting my award, so he starts off immediately with inside jokes," she said (via the New York Daily News). Later, she quipped, "We had splashes of champagne, and I love Lee but he's a bad influence."
Matthew FoxSelena Gomez, Justin Bieber take off on private jet together
In August 2011, Lost (2004-10) alum Matthew Fox was detained by police in Ohio after he allegedly punched a female bus driver who refused to let him onto the party bus she was driving.
"He smelled like a liquor cabinet, like a bar," his accuser, Heather Bormann, told Cleveland.com. "I told him, 'Sorry, buddy, this is a private party. You have to get off my vehicle.' I told him three times. He never said a word. He just looked at me."
Bormann alleged that Fox began "swinging on her" and left her with bruises on her arms, right leg, thighs, and chest. She supposedly swung back at Fox in defense, hitting him in the mouth and possibly on the back of the head.Pretty Little Liars star sentenced to jail
Fox's messy situation only got worse from there. In May 2012, he was arrested for DUI. Shortly thereafter, his former Lost co-star, Dominic Monaghan, alleged on Twitter that Fox "beats women…often." Fox called Monaghan's allegations "a pile of bulls***."
In 2007, a video leaked online featuring a shirtless and allegedly inebriated David Hasselhoff struggling to eat a cheeseburger on the floor of his hotel room while his then-16-year-old daughter begs him to get help for his drinking.Renee Zellweger hits back at Harvey Weinstein's recent claims
Hasselhoff later admitted that the video had been deliberately filmed so he could see what he looked like when he was drunk. "I am a recovering alcoholic. Despite [the fact] that I have been going through a painful divorce and I have recently been separated from my children due to my work, I have been successfully dealing with my issue. Unfortunately, one evening I did have a brief relapse, but part of recovery is relapse," he told People magazine in a statement.
The statement continued, "Because of my honest and positive relationship with my daughters, who were concerned for my well being, there was a tape made that night to show me what I was like. I have seen the tape. I have learned from it and I am back on my game. I thank God for the love and concern from my daughters. The tape was never meant to become public, but appears to have been obtained and released by my ex-wife. I hope that someone else will learn from the tape, as I have."
Reese WitherspoonSpacey apologises, comes out as gay
Reese Witherspoon's squeaky-clean image was temporarily tarnished in 2013 when she was arrested for disorderly conduct while her husband, Jim Toth, was getting booked on DUI charges in Atlanta. According to TMZ, the Oscar winner went nuts on the officer arresting her husband that night, going so far as to pull the cringe-worthy "Do you know my name?" card in the heat of the moment.
Despite the messy PR moment, Witherspoon quickly nipped the scandal in the bud, first by releasing a statement in which she admitted she "clearly had one drink too many" that night and was "deeply embarrassed" about what she had said to the officer. Then, in an interview with Good Morning America, Witherspoon shed further light on the matter, admitting she "panicked" when she saw her husband getting arrested and started saying whatever she could think of to protect him, including a lie that she was pregnant.
"I was so disrespectful to [the arresting officer]," she confessed. "I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better. It's just unacceptable."Strange things about Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel's marriage
Perhaps because of her honest and humble mea culpa, Witherspoon moved on from the scandal relatively smoothly; two years later, she received a best actress Oscar nomination for her performance in Wild. Even so, rewatching that dash cam video of her arrest remains cringe-worthy all these years later.
